With Mother's Day approaching, how can people with autism and their parents enjoy their holiday? I created some social stories for you to use as a guide.

Mom wants to do something different

I get along with my mother most time.

Sometimes, however, I can get frustrated with her.

If she wants to do something on her special day that I don't want to do, I won't get angry with her.

If I get angry with my mother, she will be sad this holiday.

I will respect what she wants.

Maybe she wants to eat a different restaurant than I do.

I will go to that restaurant with her.

Maybe on our next outing, I can pick the restaurant.

Picking gifts for mom

Getting gifts for others is fun.

It's always a good feeling to make others happy.

I may need help to decide what I should buy for mom.

I won't pick something I know she won't want.

I will ask my dad for help.

If I seek help to get mom the perfect gift, everyone will be happy.

I will also learn more about mom.

Wish mom a Happy Mother's Day

When I wake up this morning, the first thing I will say to mom is "Happy Mother's Day!"

I will not walk past her as if she isn't there or get angry at her.

That is rude and no one will be happy with me.

If my dad says it's time to give mom a gift or sign it, I will do so.

I won't say that I'm too busy.

If everything I do is for my mom, she will be super pleased.
